Here in the book of Deuteronomy, Moses is still addressing the Israelites, and he is reminding them of their victory over the Anakims-a very mighty enemy. Israel was an unlikely champion in the battle against the Anakims, but God gave them the victory. I can look back at times in my life when the battle was more than I could handle. When the pressures and struggles were overwhelming and I felt as though I couldn’t take one more step forward. There were times when the enemy towered above me, and I could feel defeat around the corner. But you see, at the end of our strength is when God steps in to claim the victory! This Christian life isn’t about our strength (or lack thereof), but the Champion standing in our corner. Sometimes we look around us at Christians who appear to be stronger in the faith than we are. I think the key to their strength is that they realize just where their strength comes from. It is not found in ourselves or our abilities. It is all in the power of Christ. Just for today, let us not forget that our enemy is stronger than we are…but he does not have to be the victor in the battle. Claim Romans 8:37 today: “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
