Dear Friends,
Dr. Milly heads the Pediatric Division of a hospital ni Santiago, Dominican
Republic. Her husband, Pastor Edwin, is lead pastor of Iglesia Bautista Vida, a dynamic church plant in Santiago.
They are a dedicated couple who love God and serve in many capacities.
Nine years ago, Dr. Milly felt led by the Lord to start a pediatric clinic in Santiago for people with "escasos recursos" (few resources). The clinic now also accepts adult patients. It is named Clínica MiniPevi and is affiliated with Global Faith Mission Agency.
A few weeks ago, Iwas in Santiago with Pastor Edwin and Dr. Milly. One morning, I visited Clinica MiniPevi to observe Dr. Milly and the clinic. Upon arrival, a woman stood at the door waiting for Dr. Milly; she needed medicine. After attending to her, D.r Mily told me, "We usually walk around the neighborhood to let people know we are opening the clinic. Go with us so you can meet our neighbors." As we walked down a narrow street close to the clinic, Irecognized the woman who had been attended to earlier. She stood in front of a humble home, waiting for Dr. Milly. In her hands she had a jar of cooked beans, carefully wrapped in blue paper. She gave Dr. Milly the beans as an expression of her gratitude for the medical care. She gave what she had - a jar of beans that were cooked over the fire in her patio. As Iwatched her give the jar to Dr. Milly and then embrace her, Ithought of the widow in the Bible who gave all she had in her offering. Humanly speaking, it was a small gift, yet Jesus said that she gave more than others. That day, Iwitnessed a pastor's wife and doctor treat those who need healthcare. I saw a woman who lived in a poor abode give a jar of beans to express her gratitude to her favorite doctor. I was blessed, challenged, and humbled by both of these ladies on that day.
It is important to note that Clínica MiniPevi is not just a place for physical healthcare; it is also a place where the gospel is shared with the patients. Over the years, the gospel message has been shared hundreds of times with those who come to the clinic for healthcare. Clínica MiniPevi urgently needs funding to buy medicines and supplies to treat their patients.
