Daniel 2:21 “And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings and setteth up kings:”
Esther. Daniel and the three Hebrew Children. The Hebrews in the land of Egypt. The Jews under the Roman Rule. These are examples of God’s people living in a land of idolatry and worldliness. Yet, as we read through the pages, line by line, we see God’s plan and God’s sovereignty unfold. These people didn’t lose their faith in the face of opposition, they grew their faith in spite of it. In times of strongest opposition, God’s true followers rose to the occasion and found favor with God and man. Not because of their compromise, but because of their courage and great faith.
Weary Christian, do you sometimes feel that you are living in a land that is not your own? A land ruled by idolatry and worldliness? It is not the time to hang our heads and wring our hands in despair. We should stand more firm in our faith than ever. Sadly, our faith can sometimes be fueled by our circumstances rather than in the confidence of an unchanging God. Do you realize that we have a much greater advantage than those followers who didn’t yet have the Holy Spirit? We have Him with us at all times. What an encouragement! Just for today, be renewed in your spirit and trust that although we may see ungodliness all around us, we can choose not to bow down but to “live…godly in this present world” (Titus 2:12).
