Just because you are a Christian doesn’t mean you have to let others walk all over you! Note: This mentality has been overused. Christians shouldn’t lose their temper, then try to claim, “Just because I am a Christian doesn’t mean I have to be a 'door mat' and let you walk all over me.” We should always prefer others before ourselves. But, when in a situation where we will be taken advantage of, God has not commanded us to be idle and let it happen.
Bathsheba did something about her and her son facing imminent danger (v.21). She went in to the King with Respect to his authority. There are two ways to handle a “doormat” situation.
1) Treat the person with the respect you desire.
2) Treat the person as your doormat as you walk all over them, for trying to walk over you!
She may have had doubts about the king at this point, but she entered his chamber with respect to his position. You may not like that the bank made a mistake and charged you too many fees, but you will never get it fixed by being a bull-dozer. You get it fixed by entering the bankers office in humility and asking nicely for help. But you don’t have to be taken advantage of.
